DHS Surveillance Growing Dramatically

It is not just cameras in the middle of the desert. The GAO says that DHS plans to add an addition 1,500 surveillance towers by 2034, funded by the recent tax and spend bill at a cost of a billion dollars.

At the same time over 1,000 police departments have a waiver to fly automated drones.

Flock is turning drones into flying license plate readers.

We are in the middle of a surveillance state.

The tower part includes:

• Autonomous surveillance towers — AI-driven systems combining radar, thermal infrared, and optical sensors to detect and track targets at long range with no human operator required for detection
• Integrated fixed towers — optimized for surveilling foot traffic and vehicles
• Remote video surveillance systems — the older, human-monitored camera installations

Add to that drones, tethered balloons, surveillance vehicles, camouflaged game cameras and license plate readers.

At the same time the GAO says that Customs and Border Protection failed to address six out of six main privacy protections for their surveillance equipment.

And going back to where these are.

DHS says that their surveillance reaches in from any land or sea border for 100 miles, so most of California, large parts of Texas, Florida, Washington, Oregon, Michigan, New York …. You get the idea. It is all fair game with a completely failed privacy protocol.
