CxOs and Directors Growing Wary of Generative AI
73 percent of survey respondents (659 board members from companies with over 5,000 employees) fear a material cyberattack on their organization this year, up from 65 percent last year.
59 percent said that generative AI presents a high risk to their organizations because it can be used by hackers to create and deliver malware with new ease and precision.
Top concerns this year, according the the survey’s author, security vendor Proofpoint, include malware (40%), cloud account compromise (36%) and insider threat (36%).
73 percent of directors agree that cybersecurity is a priority for their board, 72 percent believe their board clearly understands the risk, 70 percent think they have adequately invested in cybersecurity (compared to about 30 percent of CISOs who think so) but, in spite of all of this, 84 percent think their cybersecurity budget will increase over the next 12 months. If you believe you have invested enough, why do you think you need to increase your investment.
In spite of the fact that 70 percent say they have adequately invested in cybersecurity, 53 percent think they are unprepared to cope with a cyberattack over the next 12 months.
I think the 70% is way too high and the 53 percent is optimistically low.
