Managed Service Providers as Supply Chain Attack

This is not the first time nor will it be the last time.

This time it is NetStandard, a managed service provider that offers hosted Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics, Exchange, Shareport and CRM, based in Kansas.

Hackers know that if they take down a service provider, their customers will pressure them to pay to get back online and if they have service level agreements, it could cost them. A lot.

They sent out a note to their customers saying that they were hit by a cyberattack and they were shutting down.

To make everyone feel better, they said that they have called their insurance company to help them get back up.

Obviously, since they were attacked, they were not able to send out the warning in advance.

In fact, they sent it out after the attack.

So customers just all of a sudden lost their email, accounting and collaboration tools. How would that impact your business?

Now that most companies use cloud software, this could happen to you. Any cloud service provider is an attack target. The smaller ones are the most likely to get hit (If you target Microsoft, they have 50,000 engineers to go after you and solve the problem). How many security engineers do your cloud service providers have?

Are you prepared?
