FBI, NSA, CISA Alert on Heightened Russian Cyber Attacks

For the second time in two weeks, the FBI, NSA and CISA are alerting U.S. businesses and especially defense contractors that Russia may attack them. According the the government, the size of the company is not a determining factor.

They say that attacks against cleared defense contractors, both large and small, have been going on for at least two years.

The feds say that the Russians have been successful at compromising multiple defense contractors who are supporting the Army, Air Force, Navy, Space Force, Dod and Intelligence programs – in other words, across every part of the DoD.

Now they have released a 19-page guide for U.S. businesses to help them understand the threat and help protect themselves.

They say the Russians are stealing export-controlled information, company proprietary information and that the thefts have given them significant insight into weapons platforms development, timelines for deployment, plans for communications infrastructure and specific technologies.

The guide explains the specific techniques that the Russians are using and very specific recommendation of specific steps businesses need to take to detect, respond and mitigate the threat.

While the government is focused on defense contractors, the Russians are notorious for causing collateral damage, so even if you are not a defense contractor, you should take heed.
