AI Based Scams to Watch Out For
AI is great. Of course, anything that is great has to be immediately abused by hackers.
Here are few popular AI based scams.
VOICE CLONING
If a hacker has 3 seconds of your voice, that is enough to clone it. Typically, they use calls of a loved one supposedly in distress, like in the hospital, a car accident, in jail, and especially in a foreign country to separate you from your money.
PHISHING
AI makes the existing AI scams better. Better grammar, better ideas, better extortion. The tell-tale clues are usually gone.
DEEPFAKES
Deepfakes, both audio and video fakes, allow hackers to separate you from your money or your information or both. They can include fake celebrities endorsing who knows what, fake charities and even fake romance. What is this world coming to?
AI WEBSITES AND FAKE PRODUCTS
AI allows a hacker to create a website in hours, probably less, and clone it in seconds to create hundreds of fake copies of the site. They send you an email, maybe, point you to the fake site, and steal both your money and your identity.
CEO SCAMS
This is becoming too common and companies are losing millions over this. The AI is used to impersonate the CEO or other executive in order to get a lower level person to do something like send money, send information or grant access.
HOME LISTING SCAMS
Using AI, hackers can create a fake listing for anything from a basketball to a home for rent. You interact with the listing, which is also powered by AI and eventually, the AI separates you from your money. In the home rental scam, you send your deposit, they send you some keys and they are gone, along with your money.
