AI Authors Fake Out Major Publications

AI can write lies very quickly. Are you prepared?

An AI faked major publications Wired, Business Insider and Index on Censorship. The AI called herself Margaux Blanchard. Margaux Blanchard doesn’t exist. But her articles got published anyway.

The AI invented experts. invented places. Invented quotes.

The AI pitched a story about a town named Gravemont. This town does not exist.

The publications published the articles except for the part about Gravemont.

One editor decided to check the sources. OOPS!

Business Insider pulled two articles within hours of being questioned.

Wired replaced their stories with an editor’s note.

So what do you need to do?

If you accept third party content, validate the author – can you find other published articles? Are they on social media? Can you validate quotes?

Build your relationships with the editors at industry media so that you can respond quickly to negative coverage.

And remember – AI is only getting better, so its ability to generate click-bait articles will also continue to get better.
